Artificial intelligence is reshaping cardiovascular medicine, with more than $1.4 billion in strategic investments committed to AI-enabled drug development and new AI-powered point-of-care diagnostics for cardiac biomarkers.
According to a new report from BCC Research, the AI Impact on Cardiovascular Drugs Market – BCC Pulse Report, AI is transforming every stage of cardiovascular drug development—from target discovery and clinical trials to regulatory approval and post-market patient management—improving efficiency, safety and treatment precision. The report found that more than $1.4 billion in strategic investments has been committed to AI-enabled cardiovascular initiatives, including Novo Nordisk’s $190 million partnership with Valo Health and HeartFlow’s $1.2 billion in total funding for AI-powered cardiovascular diagnostics. It also noted growing regulatory support from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the European Medicines Agency (EMA) and Japan’s Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Agency (PMDA), which are creating clearer pathways through increased acceptance of real-world data and digital health technologies.

In diagnostics, UCLA researchers developed a dual-mode multiplexed vertical flow assay (xVFA) platform capable of detecting multiple cardiac biomarkers in a compact point-of-care format. The work, published in Light: Science & Applications, combines colorimetric and chemiluminescent biosensing within a single paper-based test and neural network-based signal analysis. The system detects three cardiac markers—cTnI, CK-MB, and NT-proBNP—across clinically relevant concentration ranges, providing quantitative results in 23 minutes. It was validated using patient serum samples, demonstrating strong agreement with conventional laboratory-based measurements.
At Stanford Medicine’s annual Health Matters community event, faculty highlighted AI and other innovations in cardiovascular care. The director of the Stanford Stroke Center presented research that advanced MRI imaging and revealed that most strokes continue growing for 24 to 48 hours, not just a few hours as previously believed. That work led to Rapid, an automated software that interprets brain scans in minutes, received FDA clearance in 2014, and after landmark trials in 2018 confirmed the extended treatment window, evolved into RapidAI, now used in more than 2,500 hospitals across 60 countries. During the event, it was also stated that every 34 seconds in the U.S. somebody dies of heart disease, and that following the American Heart Association’s Life’s Essential 8 guidelines can lead to a 65% reduction in heart disease risk and a 40% decrease in cardiovascular mortality, though only 19% of Americans currently follow these guidelines.
