Bunnie Xo, the wife of country musician Jelly Roll, has revealed she experienced "horrific" suicidal ideation while taking a GLP-1 weight-loss medication. In an interview, the 46-year-old podcast host described December 2025 as "one of the darkest times of my life" due to side effects of semaglutide, stating she was "slammed with suicidal ideation and visions."
The podcast host, whose real name is Alyssa DeFord, explained that while she had previously dealt with anxiety, she had never experienced depression before taking the medication. "You want to have anxiety because you want to be scared to die," she expressed. "You don't want to have depression because you literally don't care if you want to die."
Bunnie Xo emphasized the importance of discussing mental health issues and offered encouragement to others who might be experiencing similar feelings. "I just want people to know you're not alone," she told the outlet. "Everybody goes through ups and downs and you are worth staying here. Please stay. Do not make a permanent decision based on a temporary emotion because it will go away."
Her decision to take the weight-loss drug stemmed from fluctuating insulin levels, a condition that runs in her family. "I wish I could be part of the cool crowd and be skinny and freaking not have a care in the world," she admitted, noting that her "insulin numbers are really crazy and my body just cannot tolerate it."
Other celebrities have also come forward detailing negative experiences with GLP-1 medications. Danielle Mason, a former model and TV star, described her experience with the diabetes drug Mounjaro (tirzepatide) as "horrendous," saying it was "the most depressed I think I've ever been in my whole life and everything felt boring to me."
Bunnie Xo's husband, Jelly Roll, has been open about his own weight loss journey, having lost 275 pounds without using Ozempic. He expressed concern about health risks associated with certain medications, particularly as a singer, noting that "few things scare me more than acid reflux" because "that stuff will just rip the vocal cords." He opted instead for a combination of therapy, walking 10,000 steps daily, and a high-protein diet.
