Semaglutide is a GLP-1 analogue marketed as OZEMPIC for type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular risk reduction in adults with established cardiovascular disease. It acts as a GLP-1 receptor agonist with glucose-dependent stimulation of insulin secretion, suppression of glucagon secretion, and minor delay of gastric emptying. U.S. initial approval in this label is 2017.
