Pfizer and Valneva report more than 70% efficacy in Phase 3 Lyme vaccine trial
Pfizer and Valneva said their investigational Lyme disease vaccine showed more than 70% efficacy in the Phase 3 VALOR trial with a favorable safety profile. The companies plan regulatory submissions despite the trial missing its primary statistical criterion due to fewer Lyme cases than expected.
Pfizer and Valneva recently reported that their investigational 6-valent OspA-based Lyme disease vaccine achieved more than 70% efficacy in a completed Phase 3 VALOR trial, with a favorable safety profile. The companies plan to submit the data to regulators despite the study missing its primary statistical criterion due to fewer Lyme cases than expected. No human vaccines are currently approved for Lyme disease prevention.
The late-stage Lyme vaccine data adds incremental support to Pfizer’s vaccines pipeline as other revenue sources come under pressure. The update highlights how Pfizer’s vaccines pipeline could help reshape its longer-term product mix amid COVID revenue normalization and looming patent expirations.
Pfizer’s narrative projects $59.6 billion revenue and $12.8 billion earnings by 2028. This requires a 2.2% yearly revenue decline and an earnings increase of about $2.1 billion from $10.7 billion today.
