Novo Nordisk Cuts U.S. Prices for Wegovy, Ozempic; Gains EU Approval for Higher-Dose Wegovy

Novo Nordisk plans to slash U.S. list prices for Wegovy and Ozempic by up to 50% starting January 2027, while securing European Commission approval for a new 7.2 mg dosage of Wegovy.

Novo Nordisk plans to slash U.S. list prices for its popular weight-loss and diabetes drugs Wegovy and Ozempic by up to half starting next year. Under the changes, both Ozempic and Wegovy will list for $675 a month, effective Jan. 1, 2027. That is half of the current price tag for anti-obesity therapy Wegovy and a 34% cut for diabetes treatment Ozempic.

The price cuts also will apply to pill versions of both injections, including one sold as Rybelsus.

Separately, Novo Nordisk has secured approval from the European Commission for a 7.2 mg version of its weight-loss drug, Wegovy. This new dosage will be marketed as a once-weekly maintenance option for adults in all 27 EU countries who need further weight reduction after using the 2.4 mg dose. The decision follows a positive recommendation from the European Medicines Agency.

The 7.2 mg version is already available in the U.K., and Novo Nordisk is seeking approval from the FDA for the U.S. market.

Novo Nordisk A/S is a leading provider of diabetes care products, commanding roughly one-third of the global branded diabetes treatment market. Based in Denmark, the company manufactures and markets a variety of human and modern insulins, injectable diabetes treatments such as GLP-1 therapy, oral antidiabetic agents, and obesity treatments.
