Beam Therapeutics Gets Buy Initiation, Accelerated FDA Pathway for BEAM-302

Canaccord Genuity initiated coverage on Beam Therapeutics with a buy rating and a price target of $74.00, citing the late clinical stage company's near-term catalysts and capital to fund its first launch and next pivotal program. Separately, the company announced an agreement with the FDA on an accelerated approval pathway for its BEAM-302 therapy for Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency (AATD).

BEAM-302, which uses Beam's base editing platform, is described as a "one-and-done" therapy that directly corrects the disease-causing PiZ mutation. Early clinical data showed the therapy halts the production of the toxic liver protein (Z-AAT) while simultaneously restoring the functional, protective lung protein (M-AAT). The company reported initial data from BEAM-302 in March and April 2025, with further data expected by the end of the first quarter. Beam announced plans for a biologics license application for risto-cel and a pivotal plan for BEAM-302 in early 2026.

TIME also named Beam among its 2026's 10 Most Influential Health & Life Science Companies. The recognition coincided with encouraging Phase 1/2 BEACON data in sickle cell disease treatment. The company reported initial clinical data from risto-cel in November and December 2024, and dosed the first patient in BEAM-301 in May 2025.

Two Beam spin-out or collaboration companies were acquired by large pharmaceutical firms in the second half of 2025, with Verve going to Eli Lilly and Orbital to Bristol Myers Squibb.

Beam's stock traded at $27.88 with a market capitalization of $2.75 billion, and the company reported a cash balance of approximately $1.25 billion. Beam shares rose 11.8% in 2025, with a 73.6% gain over the past six months. Analysts maintained a consensus rating of strong buy, with price targets ranging from $22 to $80. Bernstein raised its price target to $41 with an Outperform rating, H.C. Wainwright reiterated a Buy with an $80 target, and Cantor Fitzgerald maintained an Overweight rating. UBS initiated coverage with a Neutral rating and a $28 price target.
