Gallup Ends 88-Year Presidential Approval Tracking Poll

Gallup has discontinued its presidential approval tracking poll after 88 years, ending the longest-running continuous measurement of U.S. presidential opinion that began during Franklin D. Roosevelt's administration. The polling firm will shift focus to research on broader societal issues.

The well-known polling firm Gallup has announced the end of its presidential approval and favorability tracking poll. Gallup says it will no longer "publish assessments of individual political figures," ending the longest-running continuous effort to track U.S. opinion of the nation's president.

The effort dated back to the tenure of Franklin D. Roosevelt in the late 1930s, spanning 88 years of continuous measurement. Gallup attributes the change to a shift toward research on "issues and conditions that shape people's lives."

The company says it will continue to poll public opinion about prominent issues and the nation's mood, focusing on broader societal concerns rather than individual political figures.
