Esketamine is the S-enantiomer of ketamine, marketed as Spravato for depression and Ketanest for anesthesia uses in some regions. It is a dissociative medication used medically as a general anesthetic and as an antidepressant via intranasal administration under supervision for depression. It is a controlled prescription medicine.
A pooled analysis of five randomized trials found intranasal esketamine improved MADRS scores in adults with TRD in both sexes. Females showed greater improvement and higher odds of treatment-response toward trial end.
