Eliquis is the brand name for apixaban, an oral direct factor Xa inhibitor anticoagulant used to treat and prevent thromboembolic events and to reduce stroke risk in nonvalvular atrial fibrillation. It is a prescription-only medicine used as an alternative to warfarin in multiple settings. The product was approved in the EU in 2011 and in the U.S. in 2012.
