Geographic atrophy is an advanced form of age-related macular degeneration characterized by progressive and irreversible retinal tissue loss leading to central vision decline. It is often referred to as atrophic AMD or advanced dry AMD. Disease progression substantially affects reading, face recognition, and other daily functions.
