Chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) is a blood and bone marrow cancer characterized by accumulation of abnormal B lymphocytes. It is typically indolent at onset but can progress and require systemic treatment.
Pharmac has proposed expanding access to melanoma treatments and funding two new therapies for chronic lymphocytic leukaemia. Medical researchers also highlight that New Zealanders lack access to CAR T-cell therapy domestically.
Researchers have developed modified CAR T cells that overcome prostaglandin E2 suppression in solid tumors and a selective therapy targeting IGHV4-34 that spares healthy immune cells, addressing key limitations in current treatments.
