Summary
This randomized controlled trial was conducted to evaluate the effect of menthol chewing gum on postoperative nausea and vomiting, bowel function, and recovery in patients undergoing laparoscopic colorectal surgery. A total of 50 patients were randomly assigned to an intervention group (n=25) or a control group (n=25). Participants in the intervention group received menthol chewing gum in addition to standard postoperative care, while participants in the control group received standard postoperative care only. Nausea, bowel function, and postoperative recovery were assessed during the first three postoperative days.

Menthol Chewing Gum
Participants chewed menthol gum for 30 minutes, followed by a second 30-minute chewing session three hours later. This intervention was repeated on postoperative days 1, 2, and 3 in addition to standard postoperative care.
