Comparison of Two Drugs Bupivacaine and Ropivacaine for Postoperative Analgesia in Bilateral Superficial Cervical Plexus Block After Thyroidectomy

Summary

There is significant difference between bupivacaine and ropivacaine in terms of postoperative pain assessment in patients undergoing total thyroidectomy with bilateral superficial cervical plexus block.

Interventions

PROCEDURE

Group 1 will receive 10ml of 0.25% bupivacaine

After placing the patients in a supine position with the neck slightly extended and rotated away from the side to be blocked,the procedure will be performed under sterile aseptic conditions.The sternocleidomastoid muscle will be identified,and a high-frequency (1O MHz) linear probe will be positioned transversely over the muscle,between the mastoid and clavicle. The cutaneous nerves of the cervical plexus,visible as round hypoechoic structures in the fascial plane beneath the muscle,will be targeted using a 22-gauge short block needle (5 cm) inserted in-plane with the transducer. Negative aspiration will be performed during injection to avoid inadvertent intravascular delivery. An emergency crash cart will remain available throughout the procedure.
