FDA Upgrades Peanut Butter Recall to Class II Across 40 States
The FDA has upgraded a peanut butter recall to Class II after blue plastic fragments were found in a production filter. More than 22,000 single-serve packs from Ventura Foods were distributed to 40 states under various private-label brands. Consumers are advised to check labels and return or discard affected products.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has upgraded a recall of peanut butter products to a Class II classification after blue plastic fragments were discovered during manufacturing. The recall, initiated in April 2025 by Ventura Foods, affects more than 22,000 single-serve packs distributed across 40 states.
The Class II designation, applied on Feb. 12, indicates that consumption could cause temporary or medically reversible health consequences, though the risk of serious injury is low. Inspectors found blue plastic in a filter used during production, prompting the recall.
The recall includes creamy peanut butter packets, 0.5-ounce cups, 0.75-ounce cups, 1.12-ounce packs, and peanut butter and jelly twin packs. Additional items include creamy peanut butter with strawberry jam (1-ounce and 1.12-ounce cups) and creamy peanut butter with grape jelly (1-ounce and 1.12-ounce cups).
The products were sold under private-label brands including US Foods, DYMA Brands, Flavor Fresh, Sysco House Recipe, Katy’s Kitchen, and Gordon Food Service.
The 40 states covered by the recall include Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, Montana, North Carolina, North Dakota, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, Nevada, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin.
The FDA urges consumers to check product labels for manufacturer details and brand names, and to follow instructions from retailers or manufacturers on whether the products should be returned or safely thrown away. Anyone who has eaten the recalled peanut butter and feels unwell should contact a health care provider.
