Department of Biotechnology opens Scientist ‘C’ recruitment for 10 posts
The Department of Biotechnology has opened recruitment for 10 Scientist ‘C’ posts in Pay Matrix Level-11. Applications open February 14, 2026 and close March 15, 2026.
The Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Ministry of Science and Technology, has announced a recruitment drive for Scientist ‘C’ positions. This is a Group ‘A’ Gazetted (Scientific) post offered on a direct recruitment basis, with 10 posts in Pay Matrix Level-11 (₹67,700 – ₹2,08,700) as per the 7th CPC.
The vacancy distribution is UR: 04 | OBC (NCL): 03 | SC: 01 | ST: 01 | EWS: 01. One post is reserved for PwBD (Deaf/Hard of Hearing).
The essential qualification is Ph.D. in Life Sciences, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Computational, or Agricultural Sciences, or Ph.D. in Engineering/Technology (Biomedical or Biotech). No minimum requirement of experience is listed, and fresh Ph.D. holders are eligible. The upper age limit is 35 years as of the closing date, with relaxations of 5 years for SC/ST, 3 years for OBC, and 10 years for PwBD.
The selection process has two stages. Stage I is a written examination (200 Marks), a computer-based test of 120 minutes consisting of objective MCQs with -1/2 negative marking for incorrect answers. Part A: General Aptitude (100 Qs) covers general knowledge, current affairs, reasoning, and analytical ability. Part B: Scientific (100 Qs) covers Biochemistry/Microbiology, Agriculture/Plant Biology, Animal Science/Medical, Data Science/Bioinformatics, and Biotechnology. Stage II is a personal interview (200 Marks), and candidates will be shortlisted for interview in a 1:5 ratio based on written exam merit.
The role includes formulating and monitoring programs in agriculture, medical, and industrial biotech, handling biosafety assessments, IPR issues, and patent facilitation, and representing the department in inter-ministerial committees and international collaborations.
The application fee is ₹2000/- online, while Females, SC, ST, PwBD, and Ex-servicemen are exempt. Online application starts on February 14, 2026, and the application deadline is March 15, 2026.
