Corpus Christi Announces Street Closures and Traffic Impacts Across Major Roads

The City of Corpus Christi has announced multiple street closures along major city streets due to construction, maintenance, special event activity, and permitted work. All closures are subject to change due to weather, emergency work, or other circumstances.

Work zone safety is a priority. Motorists are advised to slow down, follow posted speed limits, pay attention, watch out for workers, obey signs and flaggers, and allow additional travel time for delays.

City street reconstruction or maintenance projects include the following closures:

• Bonner Drive – Everhart Road to Flynn Parkway: Road reconstruction work has begun with new asphalt pavement, curbs, gutters, sidewalks, and streetlight improvements. The project includes ADA-compliant curb ramps, related signage, and pavement markings, as well as related utility and drainage improvements.
• Calallen Drive at Redbird Lane – Reduced to one lane. Motorists will not be permitted to turn left from Redbird Lane onto Calallen Drive, but right turns onto Calallen Drive from Redbird Lane will still be allowed.
• Castenon Street – Trojan Drive to Delgado Street: The roadway will close in three phases. Phase 1 closes from the northern Moody High School driveway on Castenon Street to Delgado Street. Phase 2 closes the northbound lane from Trojan Drive to the school driveway, allowing only southbound one-way traffic. Phase 3 closes the southbound lane, leaving only northbound traffic.
• Oso Parkway – Bar-Le-Doc Drive: City Storm Water Maintenance crews will replace drainage infrastructure underneath Oso Parkway's drainage crossing. A temporary full street closure will be set up, with message boards and construction signage guiding motorists. Residential access will not be affected.
• McArdle Road – Holmes Road to Shopping Way: The westbound lane between Shopping Way and Holmes Road will be closed beginning Monday, April 6. Two-way travel will be allowed on the remaining lanes, and businesses and neighborhoods will remain accessible. This work is scheduled through June.
• Megal Drive – Everhart Road and Thundersee Drive: A small section of Megal Drive near Thundersee Drive will be closed in the 4700 block.
• Norton Street – Cambridge Drive to Kostoryz Road: Traffic will be one-way westbound.
• Poth Lane – Gibson Street to Buddy Lawrence Drive: Closed to all traffic beginning Monday, February 2, and continuing for two months.
• Timbergate Drive – South Staples Street to Snowgoose Road: One-way westbound; roadway closures are in effect for the eastbound lanes.
• Townsend Street – Gollihar Road to Horne Road: Closed to through traffic, but residents will have access to their driveways. Construction is scheduled to continue through September.
• Washington Coles Park – The following intersections will be closed: Winnebago Street and N. Alameda Street, Winnebago Street and Sam Rankin Street, Sam Rankin Street and Lake Street, Sam Rankin Street and Lobo Street.
• Yorktown Boulevard – Rodd Field Road to Oso Creek Mud Bridge: Westbound lanes will be closed from Geiger Road to the Oso Creek Mud Bridge. Traffic will be redirected to the eastbound lanes, allowing two-way traffic.
• Aaron Drive – Saratoga Boulevard to Summer Wind Drive: Limited to one-way northbound traffic through November. The project is scheduled for completion in March 2026.
• Betty Jean Drive – Cain Drive: The intersection will be closed through Tuesday, February 17 to facilitate repairs to a sewer line.
• Commodores Drive – Aquarius Street: A section will be closed for utility improvements beginning Monday, January 26. The inside lanes will be closed through Friday, March 27.

City permitted closures include:

• Lomax Street – North Mesquite Street to North Chaparral Street: A contractor will have two 20-cubic-yard dumpsters on site for approximately 30 days. TAMUCC is renovating its first floor at Lomax Street & Chapparal Street, requiring equipment to remove trash and debris.
• John Sartain Street, N. Water Street, and N. Chaparral Street – A contractor will renovate the exterior fascia of the Education Service Center building in the 300 block of John Sartain Street. The contractor will temporarily occupy parking spaces along N. Water Street, John Sartain Street, and N. Chaparral Street. Warning signs will advise motorists and pedestrians in advance. Construction is expected to last several weeks.

• Saturday, February 14: Packery Channel Open – Packery Channel – 2 Day event, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm; Cupid Chase – Waters Edge Park, 9:00 am to 11:00 am; Safe Fun Fit – McCaughn Park, 8:00 am – 11:00 am.
