Praziquantel is an oral anthelmintic used for treatment of schistosomiasis and certain liver fluke infections in patients aged one year and older. It is generally administered as short-course same-day divided dosing. Initial U.S. approval was in 1982.
The FDA has expanded animal drug options for New World screwworm through conditional approvals and emergency use authorizations. The agency lists products for cattle, dogs and cats and says its guidance page will be updated as more drugs move through the system.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued two Emergency Use Authorizations on February 18, 2026, for NexGard products to treat New World screwworm infestations in dogs and cats.
