JARDIANCE (empagliflozin) is an SGLT2 inhibitor used for type 2 diabetes and cardio-renal indications including heart failure, chronic kidney disease, and cardiovascular risk reduction. It lowers glucose by increasing urinary glucose excretion through inhibition of renal glucose reabsorption. The FDA first approved it on August 1, 2014.
