Ixekizumab is a monoclonal antibody biologic marketed as Taltz for multiple inflammatory conditions including plaque psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, axial spondyloarthritis, and pediatric plaque psoriasis in eligible patients. It is administered by subcutaneous injection with indication-specific loading and maintenance schedules. U.S. approval began in 2016.
Real-world and trial data show ixekizumab and deucravacitinib provide durable efficacy in psoriatic arthritis. Ixekizumab achieved high remission rates and drug retention over 24 months, while deucravacitinib improved outcomes across multiple disease domains in the phase III POETYK PsA-2 trial.
Eli Lilly's Taltz-Zepbound combination achieved significant improvements in two Phase 3b trials for plaque psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis with obesity. Combo therapy led to complete skin clearance and weight loss in psoriasis, and rapid disease activity reduction in psoriatic arthritis. The results were presented at AAD 2026.
A phase IIb trial demonstrated that low-dose IL-2 therapy produced dose-dependent improvements in SLE patients, with 69.7% achieving SRI-4 response at the highest dose versus 23.5% on placebo. A separate systematic review found IL-17 inhibitors remain potential SLE treatment options, though efficacy data are limited.
Recent research highlights advances in precision medicine for psoriatic arthritis, including a biopsy-driven treatment strategy that improved clinical outcomes and ongoing investigation into new biologic agents, combinations, and biomarker panels.
Lilly said a Phase IIIb trial of ixekizumab plus tirzepatide in psoriasis and obesity or overweight beat ixekizumab alone on complete skin clearance plus at least 10% weight loss at 36 weeks.
Eli Lilly reported positive phase 3b Together-PsO results for Taltz plus Zepbound in adults with plaque psoriasis and obesity or overweight. Separate meeting updates highlighted new oral plaque psoriasis therapies with biologic-like efficacy.
January and March 2026 drug pipeline updates included Phase 3 results, Fast Track designations and Priority Review decisions across multiple disease areas. Mavacamten, teplizumab-mzwv, anifrolumab, AXS-05, gedatolisib and AFTX-201 were among the programs with notable milestones.
The FDA has approved icotrokinra, the first oral IL-23 therapy for moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis. Meanwhile, real-world research shows IL-23 inhibitors produce site-specific responses in high-impact areas like scalp and nails, and combination therapy with ixekizumab and tirzepatide shows superior results for psoriasis patients with obesity.
Phase 3b TOGETHER-PsO trial shows concomitant use of ixekizumab and tirzepatide delivered superior skin clearance and weight loss versus monotherapy in adults with moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis and obesity or overweight.
