Mixed phenotype acute leukemia is a rare acute leukemia in which blast cells express markers of more than one lineage, typically myeloid and B- or T-lymphoid. It is considered biologically complex and generally high risk.
The FDA approved Orca-T (Tregzi) for matched donor hematopoietic stem cell transplantation in adults with hematologic malignancies. Phase 3 Precision-T data showed reduced graft-versus-host disease across leukemia and MDS populations, with experts calling it a 'big advance' requiring further comparison with post-transplant cyclophosphamide.
West Virginia University Cancer Institute has dosed the first patient in a phase 1/2 trial evaluating subcutaneous blinatumomab for CD19-positive mixed-phenotype acute leukemia, a rare disease with no FDA-approved therapies. The first patient achieved complete remission after one cycle.
