Disease Profile

MDS most commonly refers to myelodysplastic syndromes, a group of clonal myeloid malignancies characterized by ineffective hematopoiesis and peripheral blood cytopenias. These syndromes may progress to acute myeloid leukemia in a subset of patients.

In the United States, slightly more than 10,000 people are diagnosed with MDS yearly, with annual age-adjusted incidence around 4.4 to 4.6 per 100,000.
