Hypoplastic left heart syndrome is a severe congenital heart defect characterized by underdevelopment of left-sided cardiac structures, resulting in critically impaired systemic circulation. Newborns typically require staged surgical palliation and intensive lifelong follow-up. Without intervention, the condition is usually fatal in infancy.
