HLHS stands for hypoplastic left heart syndrome, a severe congenital heart defect in which left-sided cardiac structures are underdeveloped and cannot adequately support systemic circulation. Newborns typically require staged surgical palliation and lifelong cardiology follow-up. Without treatment, the condition is fatal early in life.
