Glioblastoma

Disease

Disease Profile

Glioblastoma is the most common and most aggressive primary malignant brain tumor in adults, with rapid progression and poor overall prognosis. Clinical manifestations vary by tumor location and include headache, seizures, neurologic deficits, and cognitive changes. Standard treatment generally combines surgery, radiotherapy, and temozolomide-based chemotherapy.

Combined Laser Therapy and Immunotherapy Shows Promise for Aggressive Brain Cancer

A clinical trial combining laser interstitial thermal therapy with pembrolizumab immunotherapy showed nearly half of recurrent high-grade astrocytoma patients alive at 18 months, far exceeding typical survival. Separate research reveals steroids make glioblastoma cells vulnerable to dietary interventions targeting their altered metabolism.

Researchers Develop New Immunotherapy Approaches for Cancer Treatment

Researchers have developed new immunotherapy approaches including internal immune cell reprogramming and CD40-based therapies showing promising results in early trials. Meanwhile, glioblastoma remains resistant to current immunotherapies due to blood-brain barrier constraints, though advances in antibody engineering offer new potential strategies.
