ESCC stands for esophageal squamous cell carcinoma, a major histologic subtype of esophageal cancer arising from squamous epithelial cells lining the esophagus. It is epidemiologically distinct from esophageal adenocarcinoma, with different geographic patterns and risk factors. ESCC is more common in many developing regions.
