Encephalitis is inflammation of the brain parenchyma, most commonly caused by infections such as viruses, but it can also result from other immune and infectious etiologies. Clinical presentation may include fever, headache, seizures, altered mental status, and neurologic deficits. It can be severe and requires urgent evaluation and management.
