Alcoholic liver disease (also called alcohol-related liver disease) is a spectrum of liver injury caused by chronic alcohol overconsumption, including fatty liver, alcoholic hepatitis, fibrosis, and cirrhosis. Disease severity can progress over time without alcohol abstinence.

Among heavy drinkers, more than 90% develop fatty liver, about 25% develop alcoholic hepatitis, and about 15% develop cirrhosis.
